What is the Black Spot Guild?
In pirate lore, a Black Spot is given from one pirate to another when the recipient has really messed up and broken the pirate code. It is a death calling card, and he knows his time is up. While that is gruesome, the Black Spot Guild just builds off the secrecy and lore of the Black Spot; a secret pirate guild that can exist without having to say "pirate" directly. Everyone knows what the BSG is, so there is no need to have the word in the title. As they say in Pirates of the Caribbean, "Everyone's thinking it, I'm just saying it, "pirates!".
Now the coins, called "cobs", from the Spanish "cabo", meaning "end of the bar" (of silver.) They are made 100% by me, in my shop in Northern NH; designed, poured and struck from .999 fine silver! Made in the exact same fashion as the originals, struck, not molded, just like they did back in the 1600-1700s! Before pirates got a hold of them and used them as the main currency in the Caribbean AND the colonies before more official coinage was made!
My vision for my cobs was to create coins how I grew up believing "real" pirate coins SHOULD look like. What I picture should come up when you Google "pirate coin". Basically a mix of what they really looked like, with some elements of the ones from the infamous Aztec coins from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. The "quintessential" pirate coin.
I offer them in all sorts of designs, shapes, sizes and colors, two different bezel options, with or without a chain. So have a look around. On that note, give me about a week or so to make your cobs and get them shipped. But please keep in mind; this is a hobby of mine, not my whole life. And this whole operation is only me; I try to have plenty of silver in all the time for orders, but sometimes it may be a few days to get enough silver in depending how many orders I am working on. Then it will take a few more days once the silver arrives to make your cobs and get them out to you. Or perhaps I am just out sailing and doing pirate stuff for a few days! So please be patient.
